Pros And Cons Of Organic Foods

Before making any life changing decision, it is important to look at the pros and cons of a situation and to see it from all sides. The same concept works in the case of organic foods. We have heard a lot that organic foods are beneficial for your health and such usual stuff. But before we can actually adopt an organic lifestyle, we should weigh the pros and cons of organic foods.

Organic food is the kind of food developed by using natural methods. No chemically treated seeds, any kind of chemical fertilizer or pesticide is used while growing organic foods. This means that no chemicals are involved in growing organic foods.

This does not mean that while growing food, pesticides and fertilizers are not used. Only natural fertilizers are used in order to enrich the soil with nutrients. Natural pesticides are used to fight harmful invasions by pests into food products. Organic food is made by using only natural methods for growing and preservation. No inorganic substance is involved during their growth or their preservation process.

The use of natural processes makes the organic food free from toxins and other chemical compounds that are introduced by inorganic fertilizers and pesticides. Harmful bacteria such as E. coli that are common in unnaturally produced food items are also absent in organic food items.

Also, the risk of a number of types of cancers that are caused due to pesticides is eliminated by the consumption of organic foods. Organic foods are not grown by using inorganic pesticides; therefore chances of this disease are automatically nullified. But this case is also true with the inorganic foods. Certain level of use of pesticides is declared for inorganic foods also.

Organic food certainly contains greater amount of nutrients in it, but it should be preserved carefully in order to maintain the constituents. Spoiled food, either organic or inorganic, should not be eaten under any circumstances. Therefore, only when organic foods are consumed fresh, the real benefits of natural process can be derived from them. Preservation methods are applied to organic foods also, but without the right preservation method, they would prove to be equally harmful as inorganic food.

One important negative aspect of organic foods according to consumers is the cost of organic foods. Organic food costs 40 %to 60% more than the same inorganic food item in the market. The reason for this is their limited supply and the high cost of labor involved in growing them. However, as their demand increase, organic food items are sure to get cheaper with every passing day.

Consumers who are on a tight budget can always choose to grow organic food in their garden right at home.

It is apparent that organic food is highly beneficial to our health owing to their high nutrient content. It is also very tasty compared to inorganic food. If you can bear its higher price, organic food is the way to go.
